Integrated Fertility Counselling & Hypnotherapy
" Regardless of what you’ve been told about your fertility, you need to know that your ability to conceive is profoundly influenced by the complex interaction among psychosocial, psychological, and emotional factors, and that you can consciously work with this to enhance your ability to have a baby. "
Dr. Christiane Northrup
Often times, infertility is seen and treated as a physical problem. This approach has the unfortunate consequence of artificially severing the mind from the body, it obscures the fact that there is intercommunication happening between the mind and the body and that what affects us emotionally also affects our body.
People who experience infertility issues often experience a wide range of emotions such as frustration, powerlessness, anxiety, anger, and even depression. Left unresolved, these emotions can potentially take over our lives and place undue stress and strain on our relationships.
Research has shown that psychological distress may impair fertility and depressive symptoms may reduce the efficacy of fertility treatments. When we experience stress, our bodies produce Cortisol which can inhibit the implantation of a fertilized ovum, delay ovulation and reduce the number and motility of sperm.
Furthermore, unresolved emotions that are connected to infertility often reside at the subconscious level, operating without our conscious awareness. It is like an invisible force in the background wielding its powerful influence in shaping the outcomes of our lives. Failing to address the emotional and psychological aspect of infertility can, therefore, potentially undermine one's effort to conceive.
Recent studies suggest that by participating in a mind/body program, "infertile" men and women can improve their conception rate.
Dr. Alice Domar, a leader in mind/body medicine for infertility, conducted two studies that showed the efficacy of mind/body techniques in removing unresolved issues about having a baby. In the first study, published in 1999 in the Journal of the American Medical Women's Association, 42% of 132 infertile women participating in a mind/body program conceived within six months of completing it. In the second study, published in 2000 in the journal Fertility & Sterility, 55% of the previously infertile women who met regularly in a mind/body program conceived, compared with 20% of the control group who used no mind/body techniques.
The integrated fertility program I offer is a mind & body process that combines counselling and hypnotheray in one to help you to release mental and emotional blocks and achieve a more receptive state for conception and pregnancy. The program can be used as a stand-alone or as a complement to other modalities (ART, TCM and etc.).
